I have done a lot of research on colic causing foods and find the information to be vast and differing. Wading through it all makes having a baby seem like a minefield! Through study, reading, and my own experience when breastfeeding I have created the following rules for food being cooked at Stork To Your Fork:
• Avoid garlic and onion in all dishes
• Avoid broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower
• Limit addition of chilli and ensure it is cooking well
• List all beans/legumes included in dishes
There are recommendations to avoid dairy, eggs, wheat, legumes, corn, citrus, chocolate etc depending on who you speak to. When creating the menu for Stork to Your Fork I found it too difficult to produce delicious, healthy food to support a woman after birth that is rich in protein, iron and vitamins and avoids all of the ‘common colic causing foods’. It is particularly difficult for vegetarians to receive the level of nutritional support they need to recover from birth and breastfeed whilst avoiding all legumes, tofu, dairy and beans.
